New Economy engage, influence and embolden our partners to help secure a better future for the Manchester City Region.

New Economy has four teams – Economic Strategy, Skills and Employment, Policy and Implementation, and Commissioning and Operations – who work to add value to the efforts of our partners, supporting them in their work and helping steer their future strategies, through sound advice and intelligence, to effective implementation.

These teams report to a Senior Management Team, which is held to account by the Commission for the New Economy’s Board.

Commission for the New Economy’s Board

New Economy’s Board is private sector led and consists of both public and private sector members, reflecting the diversity of the business base in Greater Manchester. This gives New Economy a significant connection to business needs and desires, whilst also reflecting the priorities of local government.

New Economy manages and delivers the economic development priorities of the Greater Manchester Strategy.

New Economy is looking for two new private sector directors to support its ambitious programme of work around economic development, investment, employment and skills with the conurbation’s ten local authorities, together with private and public sector partners. The Board wants to strengthen the voice of small and medium-sized businesses and so is actively recruiting its new board members from this sector (firms with under 250 employees).

Senior Management Team

The Senior Management team oversees the work of New Economy and ensures the delivery of the Business Plan.

Commissioning and Operations Team

The Commissioning and Operations team is responsible for ensuring the effective commissioning of public investment in Greater Manchester, which contributes to the implementation of the relevant economic strategies. It also has corporate responsibility for New Economy’s finance and communications functions.

Economic Strategy Team

The Economic Strategy team researches, analyses and develops strategic thinking around economic development in the economy.

Skills and Employment Team

The Skills and Employment Team has a close working relationship with New Economy’s public and private sector partners to understand the skill needs of people and businesses throughout Greater Manchester. Working together we will shape and put in place and oversee a strategy to meet their requirements.

Policy and Implementation Team

The Policy and Implementation Team is responsible for the development of effective policy to support the effective implementation of the Greater Manchester Strategy in areas ranging from Enterprise, Digital Infrastructure, Innovation, Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The team is also responsible for overall co-ordination of the implementation of the Greater Manchester Strategy within the Commission for the New Economyand ensuring effective liaison with the other Greater Manchester Commissions and the local authorities.
