About New Economy
Our Mission
The Commission for the New Economy exists to develop, implement and review the economic priorities of the Greater Manchester Strategy.
1. The Greater Manchester Strategy includes both the process and the plan.
2. The Greater Manchester Strategy will be developed through appropriate new programmes and projects.
3. New Economy will implement the economic priorities of the Greater Manchester Strategy by:
- Managing the overall implementation
- Implementing selected parts of the strategy
- Ensuring that all other economically focused parts of the strategy are resourced and committed by appropriate partners
Our Values
We are passionate about the Original Modern city. We believe in having a strong evidence base to inform the strategic future for the city region and its economy; one that is grounded in reality but that has a clear vision of where we are headed. We want to influence those who have the power to shape that future. We want to convince our partners to work with us, to earn respect and to see genuine action and progress emerge from our endeavours.
Our Organisation
Our private sector-led board includes senior representatives from both the public and the private sectors, supported by a highly professional and experienced executive made up of policy advisors, strategists and economists.
Our Family
We are one of a family of organisations across Greater Manchester and the wider North West that includes six other commissions; the Business Leadership Council; MIDAS; Marketing Manchester; Manchester:Knowledge Capital and the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
We exist to add value to their efforts, support them in their work and help to steer their future strategies through sound advice and intelligence. We want to engage, influence and embolden our partners to help secure a better future for the city region.
Our Mandate
Our authority is drawn from the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA), the ongoing negotiations with government that have culminated in Statutory City Region status and from the findings of the Manchester Independent Economic Review (MIER) as reflected in the Greater Manchester Strategy. Our future authority will be increased through the success of our efforts and through the respect we seek to win from our partners and peers.
Our Style
We want to be direct, dynamic and determined. We will be clear about our purpose and our priorities and we will work hard to be transparent, open and to operate in a true spirit of partnership. We want to provide leadership to others, based on a strong and well-researched evidence base and a constant commitment to communications, dialogue and deliberation.
We are the lead strategic body for the Manchester City Region economy working with our partners to bring future economic prosperity to Greater Manchester.
