Mike Emmerich
Chief Executive

Prior to joining New Economy (formerly Manchester Enterprises), Mike was Director of the Institute for Political and Economic Governance at the University of Manchester, a multi-disciplinary research institute, and Dean of External Relations in the Faculty of Humanities. Before this, he pursued a career in the political and economic strategy sectors, at the Centre for Local Economic Strategies where he served as Principal Consultant and then Deputy Director from 1991 to 1996. After a period as a management consultant at Ernst & Young in 1997, he became a Policy Adviser with HM Treasury before becoming Senior Policy Adviser in the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit.

Baron Frankal
Director of Economic Strategy

Baron Frankal leads on the Greater Manchester Strategy, heading up the research and analysis team that is the acknowledged authority on Manchester’s economy, and which brings together the city’s economic strategy for long-term sustainable economic growth, which is based largely on the results of the world’s largest study of its kind, the Manchester Independent Economic Review.

Alison Gordon – Director of Project Development

Alison joined New Economy in 2009 on secondment from Manchester City Council. She is responsible for ensuring the co-ordination of New Economy’s role on those aspects of the Greater Manchester Strategy delivery plan on which it is leading, including overseeing the Strategic Commissioning Process whereby the performance management of New Economy’s activities is undertaken, and the development of further interventions to ensure the strategic objectives of the Greater Manchester Strategy are fulfilled.

David Brennan, Director of Skills and Employment
David has recently been appointed to New Economy, to deliver objectives in line with the Greater Manchester Strategy. David leads on ensuring the development, coordination and implementation of effective skills and employment policies across Greater Manchester. He is working on behalf of the Greater Manchester Skills and Employment Partnership to liaise closely with New Economy’s stakeholders which include the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Greater Manchester’s Local Enterprise Partnership and the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities.
