Town Centres

The Town Centres are key economic and social assets for Greater Manchester.

The further development of Metrolink over the next two years, to reach all the major towns that do not already benefit from rail should help spread the economic growth benefits seen at the heart of the Greater Manchester. However, to do this we need to better understand the market demand perspective.

This is why New Economy has taken the lead in improving market intelligence about the performance of the major town centres in Greater Manchester. Working with the Business Leadership Council, MIDAS and our local authority partners we commissioned a major study which has been undertaken by Drivers Jonas over the past twelve months and is now nearing completion.

This is already giving us a much better understanding about how our towns can best position themselves to grow and exploit the benefits of close proximity to the UK’s second city.
We are now working closely with the Planning and Housing and Environment Commissions to determine how the findings of this work can be properly reflected in emerging policy.
