This report by Lord Wei, sets out recommendations on how Greater Manchester can benefit from “Growing East”, to boost its trade with China.
The Chinese economy continues to experience strong growth, and despite a recent slowdown, is forecast to double in size every five to seven years. As such, in an era of lower growth for the UK and Greater Manchester, China represents a significant opportunity not only for outbound exports but increasingly, for inward investment, as Chinese firms and investors pursue the Chinese Government led “Going Out” strategy.
The report calls for an integrated strategy for Greater Manchester to increase its engagement with China. It makes a number of recommendations (to businesses in particular) to help manage the risks involved.
One of the reports key recommendations; to establish a Manchester-China Forum has already been realised. The Forum is now currently working to deliver upon the many other recommendations that are set out within the report.
