Robotics Assistants in Stockport

LEA (Lean Elderly Assistant) is a robotic assistant developed as part of Project SILVER (Supporting Independence for the Elderly through Robotics). The four year European funded programme came to an end in August 2016 but not before been tested by a group of older people across Stockport.

Project SILVER was created to search for the best technologies to assist elderly people in their everyday lives. By the use of robotics or other related technologies, the elderly can continue independent living at home even if they have physical or cognitive disabilities. With partners from Finland, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands, the partnership launched a competition (using pre commercial procurement)  and for the last 3 months the successful company, Robot Care Systems, has been travelling around the 5 counties testing their robot assistant  putting it through a variety of supervised tests with people in different settings.
