Programme: EU funding not specified

Project Description: The department for Cultural Affairs at the County Council of Gävleborg and the County Museum of Gävleborg, in Sweden, have joined forces around an innovative virtual reality (VR) technology project connected to one of the world heritage sites in Sweden: the decorated farmhouses of Hälsingland. The VR technique makes the world heritage available for a larger audience. The aim of the project is to explore how stories and environments from the cultural heritage may be accessible through VR technique. The aim of the project is to develop the story further with new iterations and continued testing on a varied audience. What do people react to? How do we give them information most effectively, how to engage further interest and exploration? Furthermore, a sub-target of the project is to make more parts of the world heritage site accessible in VR. More rooms to explore, perhaps the whole house. Via geographical information systems (GIS) we can get the surrounding landscape accurate through layers of history.

Platform Maker Education Europe

Lead Partner: Waag, The Netherlands

Programme: Erasmus+

Project Description: Maker education is learning by making. It is a creative way of supporting children to become inventors, which stimulates children’s intellect, hands and hearts. Over the last couple of years, modern technologies have become cheaper and easily accessible. Today’s students and tomorrows citizens and employees will be able to use these technologies to develop and express their creativity.  By connecting creativity and technology, children can construct their ideas and knowledge and develop into creative inventors and entrepreneurs. We are forming a European consortium of educators, makers and researchers that will allow schools to build maker spaces, test new curriculum and build new structures for collaboration in their region, that will allow maker education to grow locally, bottom up. Through research and experimentation we plan to further knowledge on the learning benefits of maker education and create new educational materials that teachers can use in their classes. The project will further develop and support international networks where knowledge, content (curriculum, projects, formats) and inspiration will be shared. Teacher training will be a key step in the project. To achieve sustainable results we want to enthuse teachers and train them in maker skills and design thinking for education.

Cognition & Inclusion

Lead Partner: Vzw den achtkanter, Belgium

Programme: Erasmus+

Project Description: An inclusive society adapts the environment physically and mentally to the disabled person, taking into account the 'disabilities'. Although this is a necessary condition, it is not a sufficient one. The disabled person needs to learn to adapt to society, as society is an ever changing environment. It is also important to promote the potential of learning, problem solving, self-regulation, etc. These 'cognitive' skills are the basis for being able to be the director of one's own live, to be independent, to be a full citizen executing his/her own rights. Cognitive methodologies with learning disabled young adults - although effective - are not well known, or are facing some resistances based on the beliefs that learning disabled people can't develop these skills. This project wants to share practices and produce a compendium with cognitive approaches (goal 1), and wants to develop a tool to assess the 'mind set' of professionals to be used in all kind of HRM-applications (selection, training, evaluation...). Partner sought are organisations supporting learning disabled adults and educational institutions such as training providers, schools and universities.

Promoting employability of young people with no qualification

Lead Partner: Municipality of Viladecans, Barcelona, Spain
Programme: URBACT III
Project Description: The municipality of Viladecans is looking for partner cities for an URBACT project proposal. The aim of the project is to promote employability of young people with no qualification or a low level of education. Youth unemployment is a serious problem in Europe, especially in Mediterranean countries such as Spain where the youth unemployment rate is 51%. Viladecans has a high unemployment rate among young people and a low education level in comparison with the average of the surrounding area. In the last few years, however, the City Council has managed to attract a number of companies and projects at metropolitan scale which represents an important opportunity for direct and indirect employment for unemployed young people, both short and long term. In order to make it possible for young people in the city with no qualifications or low levels of education to access these job opportunities, a few obstacles must be overcome: First of all, their skills need to be in line with businesses’ needs. Secondly, they should also adapt their curricula to changes in technology, changes in the way we live and relate with other people as well as to globalization effects. In this respect, Viladecans would like to increase the employability and the professional competence of unemployed young people with no qualifications or with a low level of education. The project aims to tackle common problems such as youth unemployment, from an innovative point of view: approaching R&D (in the field of learning) to the specific learning demands and challenges of unemployed people. Innovative activities in the field of education and professional training in cities should create benefits in terms of employability and better skills of the unemployed youth.
